  1. Slow down as soon as you approach the merge lane.
    • #question not speed up? No, you gain speed in the merge lane itself🤔
  2. Scan the situation at the merge lane. Check traffic on the main road in your interior mirror and left exterior mirror.
    • If the main road is not free, then stop at the beginning of the merge lane and give the way to traffic on the main road.
    • On single-lane highways also pay attention to oncoming traffic that may want to overtake.
  3. Once there’s enough space to merge, use the short merge road to gain speed.
  4. In the meantime, look in your interior mirror and left exterior mirror (do not look over your should yet, otherwise you may lose control of the steering wheel and you will also have no view of the traffic in front of you)
  5. If you are about to merge, look again:
    1. Interior mirror
    2. Left exterior mirror
    3. Left side (Blind spot)
  6. Signal to the left and merge into the main road in one smooth motion.
  7. Turn off your turn signal immediately after merging.
  8. Check whether your speed is sufficiently consistent with the traffic and adjust your speed if necessary (of course not faster than the indicated speed.)
