Why are you a programmer? To you personally, is programming a means to an end or the end on itself?
Although to my employer, programming is just a means. I personally see programming as the end on itself. I enjoy writing code, it is a hobby to me, but one that I want to get good at, not just casually do it. I want to have a Craftman minset.
Don’t be a boilerplate programmer. Instead, build tools for users and other programmers. Take historical note of textile and steel industries: do you want to build machines and tools, or do you want to operate those machines?

In the age of information, the machines are computer programs. I want to make those machines, to make my life and other people’s life better, or easier.
The amazing thing about being able to write code is I can make my own tools. That feels like a superpower today.
