At times, beyond the established traffic rules and signs, additional human intervention is required to smoothly regulate traffic. You are obligated to follow directions from:

  • Police officers
  • Military police
  • Customs officers
  • Identifiable traffic controllers
  • Traffic wardens
  • Attendants of rail vehicles

Traffic controllers must wear recognizable clothes (yellow/orange vest or jacket). You are required to follow the stop sign of this traffic controller.

Signs

  • General stop sign:
  • Traffic approaching the controller from the front must stop.
  • Traffic approaching the controller from behind must stop.
  • Traffic approaching from both front and behind must stop.
  • Traffic approaching from the right must stop
  • Traffic in the 3 directions stop, pay attention, and clear intersections. ⚠️
  • Reduce speed (moving hand)
  • Using stop sign F1

Stop or Follow Signal

During driving, a police vehicle can issue a stop signal. The light box on the police vehicle displays “STOP” or “STOP POLITIE” in red illuminated letters. You are required to stop.

If you are given the stop signal, proceed to follow the police vehicle and halt at the indicated location.

Note that the signal might be inverted depending where you look at it from.

When the text “VOLGEN” (follow) appears, you should follow the police vehicle until you receive the “STOP” instruction.
