Traffic rules
Traffic rules form the basis for how we behave in traffic. If there are no other traffic signs or indications, priority rules apply, such as: ‘traffic from the right has priority’ or ‘traffic going straight on the same road has priority’.
Road (traffic) signs
In addition to traffic rules, we also know traffic signs.
These may include a command or a prohibition. There are three types of signage:
- Traffic signs (markings) on the road.
- Road (traffic) signs.
- Traffic lights.
Directions
More important than traffic signs or rules are the traffic instructions given by authorized officials such as police officers, military police, authorized traffic controllers, or crossing guards.
Order of precedence
Instructions from police officers and traffic controllers
> Traffic lights
> Traffic signs or markings on the road
> Traffic rules.
For example, even when driving on a priority road you must stop on a traffic light.
