3.1 Getting in and out
Created: 2023-10-04 10:38
The CBR (driving bureau?) considers getting in/out of the car as an Special maneuver.
Rule of thumb: never hinder or endanger others in order to get in/out of the car.
Getting in:
- Walk to your car and check the traffic situation around your car. Do you have enough space to drive away safely?
- Walk in front of your vehicle to the door. This way you can see approaching traffic.
- Are there other road users approaching? Let this take precedence and, if safe, get in quickly.
- Close the door as soon as you are seated.
Getting out:
- Check the traffic approaching from the front.
- Check your interior mirror. Your left exterior mirror and the let side (Blind spot) whether you can get out safely without hindering others.
- Open the door, get out and then close the door immediately.
- Walk facing the oncoming traffic, towards the sidewalk or footpath.
Tip: instructors pay attention to how long the door of the car is open, don’t keep it longer than strictly necessary.
