3.1 Getting in and out

Created: 2023-10-04 10:38

The CBR (driving bureau?) considers getting in/out of the car as an Special maneuver.

Rule of thumb: never hinder or endanger others in order to get in/out of the car.

Getting in:

  1. Walk to your car and check the traffic situation around your car. Do you have enough space to drive away safely?
  2. Walk in front of your vehicle to the door. This way you can see approaching traffic.
  3. Are there other road users approaching? Let this take precedence and, if safe, get in quickly.
  4. Close the door as soon as you are seated.

Getting out:

  1. Check the traffic approaching from the front.
  2. Check your interior mirror. Your left exterior mirror and the let side (Blind spot) whether you can get out safely without hindering others.
  3. Open the door, get out and then close the door immediately.
  4. Walk facing the oncoming traffic, towards the sidewalk or footpath.

Tip: instructors pay attention to how long the door of the car is open, don’t keep it longer than strictly necessary.
