Notes
From a quick skim on the top Marketing posts of Indie Hackers as of 2022-07-13
- Send user surveys with open ended questions. Not more than 5-7 => https://wizenguides.com/customer-surveys-for-market-research
- Do premortem analysis, ie. if it fails, why could it be?
- Leverage biases => https://www.indiehackers.com/post/18-marketing-tactics-cognitive-bias-that-will-make-you-a-better-marketer-backed-by-harvard-mckinsey-reports-ff372e3417
- Create content => SEO
- Grab people’s attention instead of outright telling them your value proposition => “Your landing page doesn’t need a value proposition on the main section”
- Invest even more in marketing during a recession, but do it smartly
Marketing to developers
Devs don’t like ads.
Ads that work with devs show in the context of dev work. Eg. on /r/devops
and not on Forbes.
Devs solve problems for a living. Ads should add value to that.
Devs have very specific domain knowledge, so should the ads targeting devs.
Make the ad so relevant to your target audience they just have to stop and read.
Ads should lead to relevant pages as if following with the conversation, that is not necessarily the landing page.
