On the road you may encounter road users coming from the opposite direction: this is called incoming traffic.
Dodge
On roads wide enough for two cars side by side, bumping into each other is not a problem But what if you encounter a car on a narrow road?
- You and the incoming vehicle both swerve far enough to the right that you can pass each other safely.
- When swerving to the verge, check carefully whether it is firm enough.
If you can pass each other but it’s tight then reduce the speed and pass by as calmly as possible.
Obstacles
Is there an obstacle on your side of the road? If other road users and you cannot pass here without hindering incoming traffic then give way to incoming traffic.
Lane narrowing: who goes first?
At a narrowing of the road there is usually traffic signs indicating which side takes precedence when both vehicles approach the narrowing at the same time.
